Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 12 - East Hills Shopping Center
In the sleepy city of St. Jo MO, lies a small, very modern mall, that of which is completely dead.. Kept open by JCP, Maurice’s, and a lone Bath and Body Works, is East Hills Mall. A beautiful, and fascinating mall. A mall which told its elaborate history through the jagged architecture. Despite all of the modern renovations, East Hills Mall still retains its 1960s roots, as the very first mall in Missouri. In one of the malls entryways near JCPenney lies an elaborate timeline, dating some of the mall brands throughout the years, providing some history, several historical photos, and giving just a bit of its tumultuous history.. This board, and these modern renovations were all added in 2...

Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 11 - Keosippi Mall
Просмотров 12 тыс.Месяц назад
words cannot describe the hypnotic experience of walking through Keosippi, showered only in a glow of gold. everything in the mall is original to 1969.. While walking thru, Alan Parson Projects ‘Time’ echoed up and down the corridors, reverbed. an experience I will never forget… when I first walked in, I encountered the only other soul in the otherwise barren mall (there’s no stores), an older ...

Up next! Ahhhh yes finally, a small town mall, back to my grass roots!😌 Village Square Mall was one of those that I just prayed would be open, as we drove up to it from the outside,, completely dead.. Since the early 2000s VSM has become merely a ghost of the thriving community hub it once was. At one time featuring stores like Playland, Browns Drug, Disc Jockey, GNC, DEB, Bath and Body, and Ra...

Neatly tucked into St. Paul, Minnesota lies the Galtier Plaza, a failed downtown luxury mall of grandiose proportions. Once thought to be the perfect oasis between the cities skywalk system, office towers, several residential towers and of course the Galtiers very own twin condo towers atop.. Galtier Plaza just never worked out.. Overbudget, overly complicated, poorly planned, and poorly timed,...

Up next and to round out our short BW mall binge, we have a mall in its final days. A mall I couldn’t resist not seeing, before it closed up for good. Between its trapezium glass courts, and several gigantic sculptures, Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, Maryland was a tragic and sad case. A mall that was closing up shop in 1 week.. The doors were boarded up shortly after this cause where the mal...

It's so sad seeing the Ellipse food court in complete disuse. I used to go there with my dad in the early/mid 2000s to eat Brooklyn-style pizza that we loved. The neon retrofuturist vibes in that area were so pleasant, too! I remember the area featured @ 24:30 feeling a little underused and liminal even when I was a kid - I always wondered what the little cul-de-sac full of plants was for. The last time I shopped at Greenspoint was in the early 10's, grabbing a cool jacket from the now-defunct Macy's and a pair of shades from a stall that looked desperate for customers. The mall was mostly empty back then too, but it didn't feel outright neglected the way it does today. It's so sad seeing blown-out windows and water-stained floors that weren't there until recently.

Right before the movie theater, on the right was the arcade. Soon as you walked in, Virtual Fighter on right with X-Men behind it and on the left was Mortal Kombat with Sunset Riders behind it. Don't know how many hundreds of dollars of quarters I spend there

It’s Pasadena Town Square as MacroPlaza or Paseo was a failed attempt to retheme it after it was dying. It was also my first real mall as a kid in the 80’s. Did you know when you walked into the original food court from the outside, to the left was a Pizza Arcade with animatronics to rival Chuck E Cheese / Showbiz Pizza? It was later downsized to a Tilt, but I spent many quarters in both versions of the arcade. Also you were Gaga over the Mexican style lights and lamp posts, but those weren’t original to Pasadena Town Square. It’s was can / spot lights and sky lights as it was the 80’s attempt of being modern. Original Stores I remember in the 80’s and 90’s: Foley’s (later Macy’s), Joske’s (pronounced Jos-keys)/ Dillard’s, Oshmans Sporting Goods, Walgreens, Palais Royal, gadzooks, journeys, sound warehouse, millers outpost, Jeans West, Chess King, 5-7-9, Zales Jewelers, Gordon’s Jewelers, Visible Changes, Kaybee Toys, Payless, The Foot Locker, The Gap, Things remembered, Spencer’s Gifts, Walden book’s, Hallmark, B Dalton Book sellers, just to name a few. Food: there was a sit down restaurant called Claude’s Eatery in the Dillard’s wing, in the food court China Wok, Corndog 7, chick-fil-a, James Coney Island, Sbarros, hickory farms, Famous Cookie Company, and a few others. There was never a playground originally. The fountain stayed in operation for a long time without a stage. The only time they’d change that was for Christmas and Santa display. Also the there was a custom statue commissioned in the middle of the mall of a cowboy riding an armadillo, which was later relocated to Pasadena convention center. Sears was added much later when they closed the old sears down, which was further down south more (Walmart is there now) in an attempt to save the mall. So many memories and for it being one of Houston’s newer malls compared to Almeda (which is dying and the sister to closed Northline Mall) or even Baybrook (which is constantly updated and expanded) and is our main area modern mall now. Sadly the mall of my youth turned into more of a flea market, and really died once Sears and Macys bailed out. Also Macys NEVER modernized or updated as it stayed basically the same decor as Foley’s.

I grew up with malls. Trips to both this one and Maplewood mall would happen twice a month. Sometimes just to go meet friends and hang out. It's a shame that these centers for meeting and shopping are fading away.

A couple of years ago Forsyth thought they had a deal with a concern to get the old AMC theater buolding up and running again. They had plans to totally revamp, upgrade and reopen the theater. They thought it was a done deal. Then both Forsyth and the interested party were dashed when Nandar stepped in and killed the whole project. That definitely want to discourge or stop, if they can, anything that might help build that property back up. Scum company as far as I'm concerned. By the way, I live just south of the mall. About 5 minutes away. Made me sick to watch the malls slow decline since the '70's. Lots of fun memories.😢

Back in the 90s, my dad took me to Galtier Plaza many times to get lunch or see a movie. I could be totally wrong, but I swear there was a mini golf place on the 3rd floor at one point. Or at least something active? I remember I loved going up there with the tall windowed ceilings, neon lights, and so many plants EVERYWHERE. I remember eating at the food court several times. On the way in or out of the building, I remember a clothing store and a jewelry/accessories store. I feel like there was also a big fountain at one end? Multiple levels of nooks with tables and chairs or benches with great views. The first renovation I can recall was in the early 2000s, and the second floor was already pretty much converted into apartments or private offices. There were for sure no more plants! Most of the levels were either vacant or inaccessible to the public. The food court moved to street level and consisted of a Subway, a pizzeria, and maybe one or two others. If you continued down the hall into the Plaza proper, there was a more upscale sit-down restaurant. The street level of Galtier was already super empty as you saw it in your 2023 visit. The YMCA was open/accessible from the second floor. Now nothing is in there but 80s/90s nostalgia. It's pretty surreal to have watched these changes happen in real time since I was around 10 years old! Thank you for this video and the trip down memory lane ❤

What poor planning for a mall did for business prospects, the riff raff kills off anybody with money to spend or kids wanting to be there.

The entire state is red, under-represented because of the increasing population of immigrants in Hennepin County. Hate to say it, I might fool around and move to Wisconsin.
